This blog is a continuation of Shane Krider’s interview with home business legend Lee Anne Bartlett. However this time, Shane interviews Lee Anne’s husband, Andrew Bartlett, and delves deep into the aspects of what it’s like to be married to a successful businessperson.

Shane Krider

Here we are with Andrew Bartlett, Lee Ann’s husband, and I just wanted to take a moment to get the spouse’s point of view. It’s an interesting thing for you to have been on this journey with Lee Ann and watching her create success in this business. Certainly, you guys have been together a long time and you’ve seen her in her previous business. How have you seen this success unfold for Lee Ann and what’s it done for her?

Andrew Bartlett

As far as Lee Ann’s perspective goes, it’s been incredibly amazing to watch the transformation that it’s created in Lee Anne herself. Lee Anne came from a business that generated extreme amount of stress for her. When she first got into this business, she was able to start to create success and once that success started to evolve, it allowed her to become free. I’m extremely proud of what she’s achieved.

Shane Krider

Wow, that’s beautiful. She mentioned confidence, have you seen a difference in her own personal confidence with her success here?

Andrew Bartlett

Yeah, absolutely. Lee is in a position now to be able to make decisions, create choices or take choices because she has some financial success. Your ability to do what you want in your life, that’s obviously great for confidence and that’s what I’ve seen happen for her. It’s business where you’re there, you’re speaking to people, you’re helping people, and that, too, creates confidence because you’re just becoming a good communicator and helping other people achieve success in their lives as well. That’s very confidence-inspiring.

Shane Krider

Well it must be interesting watching from the outside looking in on that situation unfolding. Was there a moment in time when that level of success really grabbed your attention?

Andrew Bartlett

I would say that initially when Lee started in this business, it was kind of a bit freaky because it was an unknown quantity. For me, watching your partner get themselves immersed into something that requires commitment and investment can be scary. There was a point in time when I realized that she was making a success of it, it was going to be successful, and there was going to be a longevity to it that developed confidence in me as well. That point in time was probably when she first had her $50,000 month and then it wasn’t long after that when she had a $100,000 month.

Shane Krider

So did any of those financial rewards trickle down to other members in the family such as yourself?

Andrew Bartlett

Yeah, absolutely. I mean I benefit greatly from Lee Ann’s efforts and what she makes in this business.

Shane Krider

How does that make you feel as a male having your spouse out there just knocking it down like that?

Andrew Bartlett

It was challenging as a male because the traditional role of the male is being the breadwinner. For maybe a short amount of time I had to deal with that, but it didn’t take long and then I was quite comfortable and happy.

Shane Krider

I’m also married to a very high-achieving female as well. It’s interesting in life to see the roles that we play and we grow up believing, then finding yourself in a different sort of end of that.

Andrew Bartlett

I’ve got to say that for me too, Lee’s success has allowed me to be able to be a better father to my kids because I haven’t had the amount of pressure on me to be the breadwinner that many men would.

Shane Krider

Now you yourself are in fact successful. You’re a successful chiropractor, you’ve been building your chiropractor business for many years, so a lot of people look at you and think that that’s the pinnacle of success. But with Lee Ann’s success, do you have more options in your life now? You mentioned more time to spend with the kids.

Andrew Bartlett

Yep, definitely it rubs off into that area as well where I would make decisions on moving into a new house.

Shane Krider

I noticed the restoration of the car and the garage.

Andrew Bartlett

From a time perspective, definitely. I mean, I paid for that myself but from a time perspective, I don’t have to work 40-60 hours a week in my business. So I have some days where I can work on my hobbies if I have a hobby as well.

Shane Krider

This is good information because as you get started in business, I think the spouse plays an important role.
